Mthimunye Consolidated Projects (PTY) LTD was established by the 31-year-old Sbusiso Mahlangu. The company focuses on electrical control, instrumentations, mechanical engineering and designs. This also includes system integrations, industrial automation and robotics technology.

Sbusiso found out about the NYDA from the advice of an elder community member.  Upon his interaction with the agency, Sbusiso applied for NYDA grant funding which afforded him the opportunity to purchase equipment for his business. He has since managed to overcome challenges that his business faced relating to budgets and slow production lines.

Mthimunye Consolidated Projects’ profit has also grown steadily despite the global pandemic, COVID-19.   The business operates with three (3) staff members and hopes to grow to create more employment opportunities.

The young owner of Mthimunye Consolidated Projects is also on a two-year Mentorship Programme which is offered by the NYDA

When asked about the NYDA’s personnel that assisted him throughout his journey with the agency, Sbusiso said “I am really happy with the service that I have received from the NYDA team.  Their level of dedication contributes towards the attainment of young people’s goals."

Moringa Lifestyle RSA

The 34-year old Tshepo Gladwin Ntemane from Hammanskraal is the owner and founder of Moringa Lifestyle RSA, a company that produces nutritional supplements with the aim of encouraging a  healthy lifestyle. Tshepo is a Civil Engineer graduate from Tshwane North College and he previously worked in the construction industry.

 

In 2018, Tshepo established Moringa Lifestyle and he acquired a small piece of land where moringa is planted then processed into different nutritional supplements such as moringa powder, pills and tea.   

 

Tshepo has attended NYDA Business Management Training and now is in the process of applying for grant funding from the agency. Tshepo intends to set up popup stall in shopping malls so that he can sell his products to as many people as possible

Samila Cleaning Services

Siyabonga Manyoka is originally from Motherwell in Port Elizabeth where he began his entrepreneurial journey and co-founded an enterprise called Samila Cleaning Services.

His journey began right after acquiring his Diploma in Accounting from the Nelson Mandela University.

After hearing about NYDA, he underwent the NYDA Business Management Training and obtained knowledge  that enabled him to run his company, Samila Cleaning Services.

With the grant funding received from the NYDA, Siyabonga purchased equipment and material.  The business has a staff compliment of five (5) – comprising mainly of young people

Khumalo Internet Café



Nkosinomusa Khumalo (24) has a Financial Management N6 Certificate from Mnambithi TVET College.

With such an important skill in her possession, she opened an internet café that specialises in printing, copying, scanning, typing and emailing services. The internet café is located at Dukuza Ward 4 in Bergville.

Nkosinomusa received grant funding from the NYDA Ladysmith District Office.

“Receiving financial assistance from the NYDA has contributed to the growth of my business.  I’m now offering services using new printing and photocopying equipment,” said Nkosinomusa.

The business has one (1) permanent employee and, as and when required, additional assistance is brought in.

Thandikhwezi Training and Supplies



Khwezi Luthuli is a 33-year old male who is based in Mount Fletcher, Mthatha in Eastern Cape. His business, Thandikhwezi Training and Supplies has been in operation for a while, and services rendered include printing and computer repairs.

Khwezi received a grant funding from the NYDA Mthatha Branch which helped him purchase a wide format printer, all-in-one PC, rotary trimmer, heavy duty stapler, binder and paper roll for his business.

This young entrepreneur has been able to create employment for two (2) young people and plans to grow his business. He adviced other young aspiring entrepreneurs to stabilise the economy of the country by creating more job opportunities.

Ntosifiso Primary Cooperative



Ntosifiso Primary Cooperative is a 100% youth-owned events and project management business with five (5) members, namely Sandile Mbokane, Queen Nonkululeko Masango, Xolani Raymond Mbokane, Sifiso Vincent Mbokane and Nkosinathi Given Mbokane. This is a developing primary cooperative which was established in 2015 as a leisure business offering picnic spots, swimming pools, events venue and dining experience. 

 

The cooperative’s clientele includes the community of Kwa-Mhlanga and its surrounding areas.

 

In terms of events venue, this youth-owned cooperative offers an establishment called Ntosifiso Garden which is located at Kwa-Mhlanga, Kwaggafontein-D.  The venue can be booked for weddings, parties and social hang outs. Members of the cooperative attended training offered by the National Youth Development Agency and followed with a grant application.

 

With the financial assistance received from the agency, the cooperative was able to acquire a  sound system for Ntosifiso Garden.  This came in handy as approximately three (3) events are hosted in this venue per month.   Follow Ntosifiso Garden on their Facebook page to view images of their past events and get their latest news.

Projects (Pty) Ltd),

Tshilidzi Millicent Makhado is the 28-year old owner of Khensakudya Trading and Projects (Pty) Ltd), a fast food business that sells kotas filled with a variety of mouth-watering fillings. Tshilidzi is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the business that includes cooking, personnel management, sales, marketing, administration and financial management.

To enhance her business, Tshilidzi approached the NYDA West Rand Branch for financial assistance to purchase equipment such as polony slicer, bain maire, popcorn machine and dough mixer.

Tswakae Styles & Design (PTY) LTD



Tswakae Annah Moroti is a 31-year-old female entrepreneur and owner of Tswakae Styles & Design (PTY) LTD which is based in Sebokeng.

The business was established in 2017 after the cooperative which she was a part of shut its doors.  With her passion for creating jobs and a sustainable business, Tswakae decided to open her own design company that specializes in sewing of uniforms and cultural clothing.

Tswakae found out about the NYDA while she was doing her research on the internet in search for business funding.  She applied and received grant funding from NYDA Sebokeng Branch which she used for purchasing of equipment and stock. 

To date, Tswakae has been able to create employment for one (1) temporary and one (1) permanent staff.

Inyani Books (Pty) Ltd



The 26-year old Sibusiso Manqa from Vereeniging in Sedibeng is the owner of Inyani Books (Pty) Ltd.

 

Sibusiso is a born poet, author, and filmmaker who has produced six (6) films for South African television which included writing and directing two (2) of them. As a writer, he has nine (9) books which have been featured locally and internationally.

 

His most recognisable literary work are his two (2) books - My Tears Miss You and I Think I'm Depressed. Sibusiso applied for grant funding from the NYDA Sedibeng branch which he used to purchase stock for the business.

 

This young entrepreneur’s future goals include expanding globally as he believes that his work has potential and carries crucial contributions in the history of book writing.

SS Max (Pty) Ltd



The 28-year-old Sabelo Mpho Sithole who is the owner of SS Max (Pty) Ltd is also a qualified Chartered Accountant.

 

The Middelburg-born young entrepreneur is the first of two children who was employed as a Senior Auditor by the Auditor General. When the country was on hard lockdown, a friend told him about the ‘1000 Youth-Owned Enterprises in a 100 days’ Presidential Intervention that was facilitated through the NYDA.

 

He subsequently sent his application to the Emalahleni Branch. Sabelo’s application was successful - he received a grant funding to purchase a laptop, a printer, as well as accounting and payroll systems.

 

SS Max (Pty) Ltd operates in the financial services sector and provides preparation and review of financial statements, bookkeeping and management reports, tax due diligence, tax planning and advice, VAT registration, technical, consultations on GRAP, IFRS and MCS, implementation of audit recommendations for its clients.

 

 “I would like to extend my appreciation to the NYDA Emalahleni branch staff for their patience and genuine commitment to assisting young entrepreneurs, and I can only hope they extend this support to other applicants as well. It inspires hope,” said Sabelo.

 

When asked about the advice that he could give to other young entrepreneurs, he said “It is okay to start small and make marginal progress. Do not expect profits overnight and never compromise on providing quality service to customers.” 

Sekhukhune Times



The daily challenges that affected the production of Sekhukhune Times are a thing of the past and it is all thanks to the NYDA grant funding which has enabled this youth owned enterprise to keep its doors opened.

 

The newspaper received grant funding from the NYDA Groblersdal District Office which they used for the  weekly production of this publication because of the new equipment which they purchased. 

 

The Sekhukhune Times management conveyed its gratitude to the NYDA for the financial assistance received.

 

Sekhukhune Times covers stories in the five (5) district municipalities of Limpopo Province including  Elias Motsoaledi and phraim Mogale.

Moipone Aesthetics (Pty) Ltd



Kedibone Segole is a 26-year-old young woman from Mabopane, North of Pretoria. She is the owner of Moipone Aesthetics (Pty) Ltd.

 

Moipone Aesthetics manufactures and distributes exceptional quality and affordable hair, face and skin care products, which are made from natural ingredients. Kedibone Segole has approached the NYDA for a grant funding to purchase raw materials to manufacture her products.

 

The company has been operating formally for two years and she has two full-time employees. The mission of Moipone Aesthetics is to manufacture and supply beauty care products to individuals, spas and retail outlets.

Lebakeng Quality Cupboard (Pty) Ltd



Lebakeng Quality Cupboard (Pty) Ltd is 100% owned by Mr Lebang Lebakeng and was registered in 2016.

 

The company is based and operating in Soshanguve (Pretoria). The company has applied and received a grant funding to purchase machinery for glassware design.

 

Initially Lebakeng Quality Cupboard was providing carpentry services and has newly introduced glassware design services. The business renders service such as designs and installation of all kinds of cardboards, sandblasting services for glassware designs for sliding doors, building windows and other materials with glass.

Marlon Morgan



Marlon Morgan runs a cleaning service company which is situated in Eersterust, Pretoria.

 

Marlon’s business has been operating informally for the past two (2) years and it was registered in the year 2020. NYDA Tshwane branch approved his grant for cleaning equipment. The cleaning service company mainly deals with cleaning of carpets, dining room chairs, tiles, car seats, rugs, couches and ottomans.

 

The company’s target market are residentials homes, commercial business, churches, government departments and schools. Marlon currently has one (1) employee.

 

He is passionate about building sustainable relationship with his clients, and to also meet the standard of expectation to his clients.

Zee4 Security Services



Tafelkop-based Khotso Marokane is a 34-year-old young entrepreneur and owner of Zee 4 Security and Supply.   

Khotso dreamt of starting his own business so that he can be able to make a living for himself. He heard about the NYDA from social media and approached the Groblersdal District Centre to enquire about the products and services that are offered by the agency.

“I was advised by one of the consultants at NYDA that the agency offers grants to young entrepreneurs like myself who need assistance with establishing their businesses. I then visited their District Centre in Groblersdal. The assistance from the NYDA Groblersdal team was pleasant and beneficial. The staff was very helpful, attentive and responsive,” said Khotso.  

Khotso went through the process of Business Management Training and applied for the NYDA grant funding. He used the funds to buy business equipment such as chairs, tables, boards, laptops and stationery.

The NYDA grant funding has enabled Khotso to successfully run the trainings and tutorial sessions which his company offers.

To date, Zee 4 Security and Supply has three (3) full time and six (6) temporary employees. Khotso intends to grow his business in the future.

Khotso’s word of advice to aspiring young people is that they should make use of all opportunities available to them from the NYDA and other funding institutions.

 “Take chances while they are still available and put your dreams into actions,” he added.

Luphumlo Joka

Luphumlo’s passion for leadership was the core idea that propelled him to start a business that focusses on programme design, conference facilitation and public speaking. He was assisted by the NYDA through the grant programme and the Covid-19 Relief fund.

“The assistance from NYDA in times of struggle enabled me to pay my employees, telephone bill and rent for the business, ” said Luphumlo.

This young entrepreneur has also written a book on leadership and entrepreneurship, where he shares his vast knowledge and experiences.

His advice to young aspiring entrepreneurs is to take the risk and not to focus on what you don't have. He continued to advise the young people to focus on their dreams and rest will work out.   

Tsoga Mshongo Farmers Primary Cooperative

Tsoga Mshongo Farmers Primary Cooperative Limited is a broiler chickens farming venture owned by  five (5) young people from Ga-Rantho in Fetakgomo-Tubatse Municipality, Limpopo. The cooperative sells chicken and is the only distributor in Ga-Rantho and surrounding areas.

In their quest to start the business, Tsoga Mshongo Farmers approached the NYDA Groblersdal District Centre for assistance.  The five (5) young entrepreneurs went through Cooperative Governance Training and received a grant to start the broiler chickens farming venture. Their objective is to become a reputable chicken broiler and distributor in Sekhukhune District Municipality and eventually supply clients with their produce across the country.

Gideon Inno Textiles

Segametsi Songwane is a 32-year-old female entrepreneur, originally from Hammanskraal, but resides in Alberton. Segametsi is the owner of Gideon Inno Textiles, a hygiene and mobile car wash business which she established in 2017. Gideon Inno Textiles manufactures hand sanitisers, hand lotions and disinfectants as well as offer car wash services.

 

While attending a 2019 Youth Career Expo in Nasrec, Segametsi learned about NYDA and how it assists young entrepreneurs.  She then visited the NYDA Johannesburg Branch and had to attend Business Management Training for a week.

 

She received NYDA grant funding which she used to buy equipment and stock for the business. This young entrepreneur has been able to create full time employment for 2 people and her future plans include an ongoing awareness campaign that focuses on educating citizens about the importance of hand hygiene and teaching kinds to be germ busters. She also plans to have her products on sale in all the retail stores in Africa.

OH Trading and Projects (PTY) LTD

The 34-year old Martha Monase Mvulani from Sebokeng Zone 7 is the owner of OH Trading and Projects (PTY) LTD. The business was established in May 2019 because Martha saw a gap in the African food market. Affectionately known as Mogodu Girl, Martha’s tripe, cow trotters and cow’s head has kept her clients coming back for more to enjoy her African cuisine.

 

With the financial assistance that she received from the NYDA, Martha managed to buy stock and equipment for her business. To date, the business has managed to create employment for two (2) people

Queen Empress Maat Creatives Works (PTY) LTD



Ipeleng Finger is the owner of Queen Empress Maat Creatives Works (PTY) LTD, a welding company which currently operates at an Incubation Centre in Motheo, Bloemfontein. This youth-owned enterprise manufactures devil’s fork, burglar doors and steel related items which are sold directly to the community.

 

Queen Empress Maat Creatives supplies residential homes, corporates and schools. In the early days of the business, they focussed on installation of finished products which was outsourced however due to the growth and demand, Queen Empress Maat Creatives now manufactures their own goods. 

 

The business employs two (2) young people and the owner, Ipeleng is grateful for the grant funding which she received from the NYDA Bloemfontein Branch.

Oranje Projects (Pty) Ltd t/a Silent Wheels

Oranje Projects (Pty) Ltd t/a Silent Wheel Auto Repairs is an automobile repair services company that is owned and managed by a 32-year-old female entrepreneur who is eager to succeed in her business venture.

Ms. Nonkululeko Shezi started the business with the money she saved up during her previous employment. Oranje Projects (Pty) Ltd t/a Silent Wheel Auto Repairs’ operations are based in Newcastle CBD. The company’s current location has made it easily accessible to individuals, small businesses, private companies and government. Their core services include vehicle diagnostics, services and repairs.

The company’s equipment was however limited, which in turn hindered their performance as they could only service a small number of clients at a given time. It was this reason that encouraged Nonkululeko to approach the NYDA Newcastle Branch for assistance on additional equipment that would contribute to the growth of her business and employ more young people.

Oranje Projects (Pty) Ltd t/a Silent Wheels Auto Repairs’ main objective was to reach out to a broader client base without having to outsource their equipment.  

Kagiso Motsoenyane

The 25-year old Kagiso Motsoenyane from Sebokeng Zone 13 is the owner of KG Equipment Events and Projects. The business specialises in welding and manufacturing of outdoor and indoor furniture as well as 3D moulding and architectural structural design.

 

Kagiso received grant funding from NYDA Sedibeng branch which enabled him to purchase equipment and stock                                

This young entrepreneur has completed NQF Level 4 in Engineering Related Design from Flauvis Mareka TVET College in Sasolburg and is set to take his business to greater heights.

Soma Life (Pty) Ltd



The NYDA is proud to have walked with the 28-year-old Slindokuhle Khulu from Madadeni in Newcastle, on his entrepreneurship journey!

He completed his National Diploma in Somatology from the Durban University of Technology, and founded Soma Life (Pty) Ltd -  a health and wellness centre that was established using his own personal savings after he had acquired over 3 years’ experience in the field. The company offers services such as body treatment, soft tissues, various muscle treatment and skin care therapy.

Soma Life (Pty) Ltd however needed additional equipment to work effectively and timeously as the clientele grew. Slindokuhle did not hesitate to seek assistance from the NYDA Newcastle Branch. He received financial support through the branch to purchase further equipment which enabled the business to meet the demand of its clients.

Slindokuhle has been able to create work opportunities for four (4) young people including himself.

Boys Auto (Pty) Ltd



Two young entrepreneurs from Newcastle in KwaZulu-Natal used their collaborative efforts to establish Boys Auto (Pty) Ltd, an automotive repair services company.

Mr. Wanda Thobani Msimango (28) and Mr. Mbuso Ngwenya (27years) have each obtained a Motor Trade Test certificate. Their journey began when they both agreed on a decision to approach one of the National Youth Development Agency’s Branches in the area.

The passionate car mechanics were initially enrolled on a Business Management Training course, which is a prerequisite before one can apply for a grant. They required advanced equipment and tools to acquire RMI accreditation, be able to service car insurance companies and expand their client base to increase revenue.

The NYDA supported the two (2) young entrepreneurs with equipment after they had successfully undergone all application processes. Boys Auto (Pty) Ltd has in addition been assisted to obtain its RMI accreditation through assistance from the agency. This automotive repair services company has since been able to create employment opportunities for five (5) more young people.

Anathi Nkanyuza



The 25-year-old Anathi Nkanyuza is the founder of Pretoria-based Elpee’s Art Gallery which specialises in portraiture, sculptures, picture framing, photography, videography, art event planning, art exhibitions and curating.

Anathi received grant funding from the NYDA Tshwane Branch to purchase equipment and stock for his gallery.   

Part of Anathi’s business expansion plans is to collaborate with 16 emerging artists in order to grow the audience on the company’s YouTube channel so that it can qualify for YouTube Monetization Programme.

A lesson he would like to share with young aspiring entrepreneurs is that entrepreneurship is not for someone who expects an overnight success, it requires patience and consistency.

Tania Moleko

Tania Moleko is a young entrepreneur from Kuruman in the Northern Cape.

 

Tania has a certificate in Radio Production and she was previously employed by the Kuruman local radio station as a Station Manager.  About a year ago a bite by the “entrepreneurship bug” propelled her to start her own multimedia business called Dream Concepts Agency

 

Dream Concepts agency specialises in corporate communication, corporate gifts, media planning, print publications, radio and video production.

Royal Fam (PTY) Ltd

De-Aar-based Baxolele Ntloko is a 26-year-old entrepreneur and owner of Royal Fam (PTY) Ltd. Royal Fam (Pty) Limited is an end-to-end provider of digital marketing services which include web design and hosting as well as social media management.

 

This youth-owned company received NYDA grant funding which enabled the purchasing of equipment.

Leinstec Underwriting Managers (Pty) Ltd



Leinstec Underwriting Managers (Pty) Ltd is an NYDA-funded youth-owned company that has managed to create four (4) full-time, as well as seven (7) temporary employment opportunities for young people in Mpumalanga.


It is a Funeral Care Insurance Cover and other related business services establishment that was founded by Mr. Bonginkosi Mbuli, who is a passionate and ambitious young entrepreneur from Ermelo. Bonginkosi received the NYDA grant funding through the Secunda Branch to acquire call centre office tools and equipment. Their main clients are funeral parlours, corporates and individuals.

Leinstec Underwriting Managers (Pty) Ltd aims to expand and create more work opportunities for young people in the near future. They are currently operating at 2 Murray Street, Ermelo, Mpumalanga.

Limkings Records Pty (Ltd)

Limkings Records Pty (Ltd) is a 100% youth owned company and was registered in 2016. The company is based in Lephalale, Marapong under Waterberg District Municipality in Limpopo Province.

The company applied and received grant funding from the NYDA Polokwane Branch to the value of R43 950.00 to purchase studio equipment. Limkings Records offers cost effective services that include video and sound recordings.

The company’s target market includes artists, church choirs, community ceremonial activities and event management companies.

LSD Flexi

In 2018, three (3) young women from Groblersdal within the Elias Motsoaledi Local Municipality in Limpopo, spotted a gap in the local market which presented an opportunity for them to provide  low cost hiring of jumping castles, décor for kiddies’ parties and weddings. 

Sonia Mashego and Lisbeth Makgoro, who are two of the three founders of LSD Flexi, both hold High Certificate in Events Management. The young entrepreneurs needed funds for their business and decided to approach the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) for grant funding.

The LSD Flexi application was approved and the company received grant funding to the value of R49 737,00 to purchase equipment.  Furthermore, the young owners had a mentor who provided guidance and assistance for the successful running of their business.

It is through the NYDA grant funding that they were able to establish their jumping castles hiring and decor business.

Zola Nyiki

Zola Nyiki is a 30-year-old male from KwaNobuhle, Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape. He holds an Electrical Trade Test Certificate and is from a family of eleven. “My dream was to start a business so that I can be able to put food on the table and have shelter for my family”, said Zola.

He heard about the NYDA from a friend and decided to visit the NYDA Port Elizabeth Branch. Zola attended the Business Management Training and in September 2019 he applied for a grant to the value of R50 000, 00 which he used to buy electrical tools for his company which trades as July Eighteen Trading Pty LTD.

July Eighteen Trading specialises in electrical maintenance and currently has 11 young people employed on a part time basis.

Since inception, Zola and his team has been trying to find affordable ways to market the business.  He has however been able to find new clients through referrals and intends to grow his business nationally.

When asked about the piece of advice he can give to other young entrepreneurs, Zola said “Do not be afraid to fail.  Learn from your own mistakes and believe in yourself. Never stop knocking on those closed doors.  The NYDA is here to help us and remember the saying, VUKA UZENZELE.

Unathi Majangaza

Unathi Majangaza is a 28-year-old female from New Brighton, Port Elizabeth in Eastern Cape. She holds BCom qualification in Business and Economics and is coming from a family of eight (8). Before approaching the NYDA she was studying and running an internet cafe.

“My dream was to start a business so I can be able to build my own legacy, to be the building block and eliminate or decrease the high rate of unemployment in our country”, said Unathi.

Unathi heard about the NYDA from a friend and she approached the branch in Port Elizabeth to enquire about products and services that are offered by the agency. “I then visited their office and where the assistance from the team was pleasant and beneficial. The staff was very helpful, attentive and responsive”, said Unathi.

She went through the Business Management Training and applied for the NYDA Grant Funding to the value of R50 000 in September 2019 which she used to buy PC, Heat press, Binding machine, EPSO L382 and paid for the installation. The grant amount received from the NYDA was paid directly to the supplier. Unathi’s business is called Mink Net Pty LTD and she currently employs two (2) young people on a part time basis and intends to expand the business nationally.

“Challenges of running a business like this is the maintenance of the equipment and there are other opportunities that we would like to achieve. The NYDA Mentorship Programme will come handy for guidance in our businesses. Creating jobs for youth and have a stable growing business is a great success”, said Unathi.

“To young people, the sky is the limit. Anything that you want to achieve in life is possible, just keep your head up high to get your desired goal. I would like to thank the NYDA Port Elizabeth branch,” said Unathi.

Candice Kim Weideman

Candice Weideman, is a 30-year-old female from Hermanus in Cape Town, Western Cape. She holds a National Diploma in Entrepreneurship and was raised with three siblings, and she is the only one who is working. Starting a business was one of her dreams as she was growing up and seeing that the opportunities of getting a job are limited, she wants to employ other young people for the economic growth of the country.

Candice heard about NYDA programs from SEDA, and she then approached the NYDA branch in Cape Town to enquire about the products and services that are offered by the agency. “I was advised by one of the consultants that the NYDA offers grants to young entrepreneurs like myself who need assistance with establishing their businesses”, says Candice.

Candice, went through the process of applying for the NYDA Grant Funding to the value of R16 685.00 which was paid directly to the suppliers to buy sewing machine and over locker, which was approved in December 2019. She now runs a Handmade toys & Souvenirs; the name of the business is Rosalby Bears. She currently employs two permanent employees and she intends to own more shops and employ more young people.

“Seeing the return on investment, is the success to my business. Thank you NYDA (Cape Town branch), the challenges I had was access to funding with demand and supply”, says Ms Weideman.

“To young people out there, life will always throw things at your way and even though it feels like you are drowning just keep pushing”, says Ms Weideman.

JOBS Placement Programme



Six unemployed young people from KwaZulu-Natal visited the NYDA Branch in Newcastle to enquire about Jobs opportunities. The branch referred them to submit their CV together with supporting documents to the agency’s JOBS Placement Programme.

The Branch enrolled them on the Job Preparedness Training and subsequently registered them on the Agency’s Jobs Seekers Database. Through the programme, they were linked to job opportunities from the Department of Health under Amajuba District, where they are currently employed as Research Study Assistants.

The Job Placement Programme aims to connect both skilled and unskilled young people up to the age of 35 with companies that offer various employment opportunities. This multi-faceted programme also equips the youth with the necessary skills and knowledge through its Job Preparedness Training.

The NYDA encourages young people to visit their closest Branches to receive more information and further assistance. 

Angelique De Villier



The 28-year-old Angelique De Villiers from Cape Town has defied the odds by celebrating five (5) years of being sober from drug abuse this year.

She has taken full control of her life and is currently enrolled on a Learnership Programme with SGS Agriculture, Food & Life through the assistance of the NYDA. The Agency assisted Angelique with registering her CV on the Jobs Seekers Database after she had visited the Cape Town Branch.

The Western Cape-born was further supported through the Business Management Training course, which seeks to educate young people about starting and growing their businesses with the aim of creating employment. Start and Improve Your Business (SIYB) is the largest global business management training programme.

Angelique strongly believes that lack of information can delay one’s progress. She therefore encourages young people to believe in themselves and explore opportunities that are being presented to them.

“The NYDA has assisted me with finding a job so that I can be able to support my family. This has had a positive impact in my life and has improved my confidence,” Angelique concluded.

Tlotlego Handcrafts



Tlotlego Handcrafts was established in 2016 by Ike Lekgoro who is a 32-year-old young man from Ga-Nchabeleng area under Sekhukhune District Municipality in Limpopo. Ike received the NYDA Grant Funding to the value of R49 981, 06 to purchase industrial sewing machinery.

He approached the NYDA Groblersdal District Office to request financial assistance and went through the screening process to assess if his business was eligible for the requested funding. After a successful assessment, his grant application was approved.

The high level of unemployment rate is what drove him to pursue his passion and, Tlotlego Handcrafts was born as a result.

Initially, Ike started with handcrafting neck pieces, earrings, sandals and handbags. He was criticised when he roamed the streets in an effort to sell his items, but he did not give up.

Today, Tlotlego Handcrafts is a well established company that operates in Burgersfort with good quality products such as shoes, bags and leather wallets.

Qhamanande Maswana



Qhamanande Maswana is a 28-year-old male from Rhayi Location in King William’s Town, Eastern Cape. He has a National Diploma in Fine Arts.

The Eastern Cape-born young man was raised in a single-income household, and his dream was to start his own business so that he could be able to assist his family.

He then approached the NYDA East London Branch to enquire about the products and services that are offered by the agency.

In December 2018, Qhamanande went through the process of applying for the NYDA Grant Funding to the value of R45, 898. 80, which enabled him to buy art material such as paints, brushes and canvas board.

In addition to the art material, he also used his Grant Funding to purchase branding equipment, colour printer, camera, laptop and a Wi-Fi router.

Qhamanande now operates as a Fine Artist with a studio in Johannesburg where he makes painting and drawings. He currently employs one (1) young person on a temporary basis and intends to grow the business and create an artist hub that will accommodate artists and offer studio spaces.

Mittah Molete



The NYDA Sedibeng Branch assisted a young person living with disability to get an electronic powered wheelchair through the Office of the Chairperson’s Thusano Fund. The wheelchair was handed over to Ms Mittah Molete on the 19th of September 2019 at her home in Boipatong, South of Johannesburg.

Speaking during the handover event, Mittah expressed her gratitude to the NYDA and said it has put a smile on her face. She has also been employed successfully as a receptionist at the NYDA Sedibeng Branch.

The handover event was attended by the Sedibeng District Municipality MMC for Health and Social Development - Cllr. Raikane, Executive Director for Community Services - Jabulile Medupe and NYDA Branch Manager in Sedibeng - Michael Phokela, amongst others. Cllr. Raikane thanked the NYDA and reiterated the importance of community development to empower young people and assist the needy.

Dodo's Kitchen



Mikovhe Tshivhase, is a 27-year-old male from Cotswold, Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape. He holds Master’s Degree in Economics. 

Mikovhe heard about the NYDA from social media and he approached the Port Elizabeth Branch to enquire about the products and services that are offered by the agency.

“I was advised by one of the consultants that the NYDA offers grants to young entrepreneurs like myself who need assistance with establishing their businesses. I then visited the NYDA Port Elizabeth Branch to get assistance,” said Mikovhe.

The young entrepreneur then went through the Business Management Training and applied for NYDA Grant Funding.  In November 2018, Mikovhe received grant funding to the value of R48 000 which he used to buy a mobile food trailer for his business called Dodo’s Kitchen.

His business specialises in fast food and catering.  Mikovhe currently employs four (4) young people on a full-time basis and intends to grow Dodo’s Kitchen into a franchise. 

“I enjoy creating and adding value to the society and playing part in boosting the economy of South Africa,” said Mikovhe.

On his advice to other young people, Mikovhe encourage them to work hard to ensure that their businesses are sustainable.  Mikovhe chose the entrepreneurship route as a solution to ending poverty and unemployment, which faces most young people in our country.

He concluded by thanking the NYDA Port Elizabeth branch for their hard work and support throughout his journey.

Nothisinazo Lena



Nothisinazo Lena, is a 31-year-old female from Kabega, Port Elizabeth in Eastern Cape. She holds a National Diploma in Management.  Her dream was to start her own business so that she can be able to make a living for herself. She came across the NYDA website and decided to approach the Port Elizabeth Branch to enquire about the products and services that are offered by the agency.

“I was advised by one of the consultants that the NYDA offers grants to young entrepreneurs like myself who need assistance with establishing their businesses. I then visited their office in Port Elizabeth and the assistance from the team was pleasant and beneficial. The staff members were very helpful, attentive and responsive,” said Nothisizano.   

Nothisinazo went through the process of Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP) Training and applied for the NYDA Grant Funding to the value of R38 000 in November 2018, to buy a Vinyl Cutter and Heat Press.

Nothisinazo’s company is called Clockworks Branding and specialises in design and printing.  She currently employs three (3) young people on a full-time basis and intends to grow the business into a workshop. 

Her future goals also include ensuring that Clockworks Branding becomes the leading and best printing company in Africa and venturing into real estate. 

“Being in business is not a child’s play. Focus, be resilient, be sober minded and enjoy the ride. I think that the NYDA should have more campaigns for youth in the informal or rural areas. A lot of young people still do not know about the NYDA and the wonderful support you offer to young entrepreneurs,” said Nothisizano.

Sawbrious Educational Academy



Siseko Lisbon, is a 30-year-old male from Port Elizabeth in Eastern Cape. His dream was to start his own business so that he can be able to make a living for himself, father and six (6) siblings.   He heard about the NYDA from social media and approached the NYDA Port Elizabeth Branch to enquire about the products and services that are offered by the agency.

“I was advised by one of the consultants at NYDA that the agency offers grants to young entrepreneurs like myself who need assistance with establishing their businesses. I then visited their branch in Port Elizabeth and the assistance from the team was pleasant and beneficial. The staff was very helpful, attentive and responsive” said Siseko.   

Siseko, went through the process of Business Management Training and applying for the NYDA Grant Funding to the value of R50 000 in November 2018. He used the funding to buy business equipment such as chairs, tables, boards, laptops and stationery. Siseko’s business is called Sawbrious Educational Academy which offers trainings and tutorial sessions. He currently employs three (3) young people on a full-time basis and six (6) are temps.  Siseko intends to grow his business in the future.

“To young people, use all platforms given to you by NYDA and other youth development institutions to enhance and develop your personality. Take a chance while they are still available and put your dreams into actions” said Siseko. 

“I would like to thank the NYDA Port Elizabeth Branch for their pleasant and great support.  That was so humbling. I feel like I am part of the family,” Siseko concluded.

Ambesha Africa (Pty) Ltd



Trudy Windy Mkansi is a 30-year-old young woman who established her own business after completing her Postgraduate Diploma in Business Management.

 

Ambesha Africa (Pty) Ltd is her company, which manufactures handcrafted patio furniture, lounge suites and swing chairs. Trudy operates her business in Riversands and has a branch in Kyalami, Gauteng. The NYDA assisted the young aspiring entrepreneur with financial support for her business. She received a Grant Funding of R 113 995, 00 to purchase business material and equipment.

 

Her first encounter with the agency was through social media when one young person expressed their words of gratitude to the NYDA Johannesburg Branch on Facebook. She then visited the same branch to access further information. The branch advised her to submit all required documents, which she did, and her Grant Funding was approved.

 

The company currently employs four (4) permanent staff members as well as four (4) people on a temporary basis. 

Mristo Soaps



The 23-year-old Kutloano Mokoena from Bayswater in Bloemfontein is a Business Management graduate who obtained her qualification from Motheo TVET College. Kutloano is also a founder of Mristo Soaps, a manufacturing company that specialises in cleaning detergents for households and industrial purposes.

 

She visited the NYDA Bloemfontein Branch after being encouraged by one of her customers. The branch enrolled her on both the Generate Your Business Idea (GYI) and Start Your Business (SYI) trainings. Kutloano received her first Voucher for Financial and Accounting Systems in February 2018.  


The agency further assisted the young aspiring entrepreneur with a Grant Funding of R49 991, 52 to purchase business equipment in May 2018, as well as the Business Plan Voucher in August of the same year. 

Bontleful Beauty Spa



Beauty Sandt from Kathu in the Northern Cape Province is a qualified beautician who turned her passion into business, upon completing her studies.

She began with operating the business, Bontleful Beauty Spa, at her parents' home until the clientele grew and could no longer attend to all the needs of her customers. At this point, Beauty decided to seek assistance through the NYDA Kimberley Branch in order to improve her services.

The agency approved a Grant Funding to the value of R50, 000. 00 to buy hair products and equipment for her business, which employed two (2) young people at the time.

Presently, Beauty has managed to move her business from her parents’ backyard to Kathu Mall in Northern Cape. Beauty has joint ventures with other companies for wellness programmes, and her business has further expanded its staff capacity. From previously employing two (2), the young aspiring entrepreneur has five (5) young people that she works with full-time.

Bontleful Beauty Spa now services Khathu-based clientele only, but they are aiming to expand to serve the entire Northern Cape. 

Local Village Foods



Ms. Sipamandla Manqele is an NYDA Beneficiary who has been selected as one of the Mail and Guardian’s 200 Young South Africans 2019.

She is a 28-year-old entrepreneur breaking fresh ground in the realm of agro-processing with her business, Local Village Foods. Her business produces a variety of artisanal and organic foods and has built a compelling value proposition within a niche health market. Manqele’s business has been running for three years and has already proven itself a viable and valuable startup, providing employment and community growth.

“I am inspired by our continent, Africa, its diverse cultures and its quest for social and economic unity,” says Manqele. “My startup was founded on a vision to create a network of vibrant and local agri-preneurs across Africa, all supplying equitably sourced and sustainably grown indigenous African ingredients to the global village. My goal is to connect ethical producers with conscious consumers, as this is the key to cultivating a better world.”

Manqele’s immediate plans are to scale up the business and take it to bigger retailers in South African and beyond the borders. She wants to play a role in the implementation of free and fair trade across Africa. Manqele advises any young South African looking to build their own story of success to look to who benefits from what they do.

“Work is a gift we should receive with open arms; there are no shortcuts, and instant gratification should not be something we pursue,” she concluded.

J Allegiant Printing



Jabulani Molefe from Ventersdorp in North West started his business, J Allegiant Printing, as a source of generating income for himself when he was still a student at one of the tertiary institutions.

His realisation of the need for his services in the community influenced his decision to continue with the business on a full-time basis. J Allegiant Printing offers customised printing services from items including mugs, caps, t-shirts, key rings, mouse pads, and many others. Initially, he would outsource the printing services, but reinvested in his own business by purchasing a printing machine and computer.

The clients continuously propose additional services that they would like to access through J Allegiant Printing, as the business enjoys growth. The young aspiring entrepreneur responded to the demands of his clients. However, the plea meant that Jabulani add more equipment In order to effectively deliver on his promise.

He then approached the NYDA for financial assistance. The agency enrolled him on the Business Management Training (Start Your Business) Course, which he has applauded for assisting him to run his business better. The NYDA subsequently supported Jabulani with the Grant Funding of R50 000.00 to acquire the necessary machinery.

Mangethe Enterprises Medical Store (Pty) LTD



Thembekile Mahintsho is a 33-year-old young man from Milnerton in the Western Cape Province who holds a Certificate in Hospitality.

He heard about the NYDA through the Cape Winelands Municipality and decided to visit the Cape Town branch for further information and possible assistance, as one of his aspirations had always been to start his own healthcare business.

Upon his arrival at the branch, the Cape Town-based young aspiring entrepreneur was advised that the agency offers the Business Management Training course and Grant Funding opportunities to youth with viable business ideas.

Thembekile subsequently enrolled for the course, which is aimed at creating a conducive environment for young entrepreneurs to access relevant entrepreneurship skills, knowledge, values and attitudes for their businesses. The NYDA assisted him with the Grant Funding of R9 984.46 to purchase merchandise for his business, Mangethe Enterprises Medical Store (Pty) LTD, which has since been featured in one of the reputable media houses in South Africa.

The business currently employs one young wellness assistant and, the young aspiring entrepreneur believes that the South African youth is capable of attaining great things. Thembekile further emphasises that young people should keep on learning in order to constantly empower themselves and expand their possibilities.  

Sibani Engineering



Sibani Engineering is a Science and Engineering-orientated organisation that offers Waste Management services, which include general, as well as hazardous waste disposal, scrap metal and recycling of Polyurethane waste.

Mpande Masondo started the company after taking note of the high demand of hazardous waste management services in his community. He was still a trainee metallurgist at Anglo Coal at the time. Although Mpande used his own money to establish the company, the young entrepreneur still needed more capital to meet the high demand for his services. He then approached the NYDA Emalahleni Branch for further financial assistance. The NYDA assisted Sibani Engineering with the Grant Funding of R 60 000, 00 to purchase skip bins, which were to be placed at various mines.

Mr. Masondo approached different mines where he intended to collect waste products from. The company has since created 18 permanent employment opportunities and, has a potential to create more. In further supporting his business, the agency supported Sibani Engineering with a branding Voucher worth R15 400, 00.

Zandile Mguli



Zandile Mguli, is a 29-year-old female from Gugulethu, Cape Town in Western Cape. Raised by her mother and her younger sisters, her dream was to start her own business so that she can be able to assist her mother who is the sole breadwinner.  She approached the NYDA Cape Town Branch to enquire about the products and services offered by the agency.

“I was advised at a workshop held at ICYE that the NYDA offers grants to young entrepreneurs like myself who need assistance with establishing their businesses. I then visited their office in Cape Town and the assistance from the team was of high order. The staff was very helpful, attentive and responsive,” says Ms Mguli.

Zandile, went through the process of EDP training and applying for the NYDA Grant Funding to the value of R28 000, 00 to buy business equipment and merchandise.  Mguli’s application was approved in November 2018. She now runs a small business called Fish Anchor.  She currently employs one young person on a permanent basis and a temp.  She intends to employ more young people and grow from home to an industrial area around Cape Town.

When asked about her future goals Ms Mguli said, “I would like to own a shop in one of the malls and all over the province.”

“To young entrepreneurs and youth, believe in what you want to achieve, go and get it as it won’t come to you. Be consistent and you will get better results. Anything is possible,” says Ms Mguli.

Ms Mguli also thanked the NYDA Cape Town Branch for their pleasant support and the smooth grant application.

Maraba Manor



Keneilwe Maluse from Vryburg in the North West Province is a 32-year-old owner of Maraba Manor, a private house offering accommodation to paying guests.

She studied Chemical Engineering but decided to take a turn and focus on her own business, which started with only two rooms. Maraba Manor has about four rooms to date. To guarantee that her guests receive a cosy and comfortable stay, as in one's own home, the NYDA assisted the young aspiring entrepreneur with a Grant Funding of R44 059 to purchase furniture including beds, microwave ovens and fridges.

The young and vibrant Keneilwe said the support she received from the NYDA impacted her business greatly as she is now receiving plenty of bookings from neighboring towns, due to the improved experience that she has been able to sell to her clients. As her business is growing rapidly, Keneilwe plans to open another branch soon. Maraba Manor has about two full-time staff members currently.

She encourages young entrepreneurs to exercise persistence and asserts that those in the Hospitality Industry should constantly strive to provide a hygienic and honest service to clients

Eco Finesse



The 26-year-old Katlego Kamogelo Mathathe from Meadowlands in Soweto is the founder of Eco Finesse, a company that specialises in manufacturing and supplying of hygiene and healthcare detergents. Their leading products are dishwashing liquid and pine gel.

The young aspiring entrepreneur was introduced to the NYDA when the agency was conducting a training in Meadowlands. He then enquired and later visited the NYDA branch where he initially registered for the Business Management Training, which is aimed at creating a conducive environment for young entrepreneurs to access relevant entrepreneurship skills, knowledge, values and attitudes for their businesses.

Katlego received non-financial support including business plan drafting, printing and branding assistance after he had successfully completed the training. The NYDA subsequently aided  Eco Finesse with the Grant Funding of R48 000, 00 to purchase equipment and materials. The business has grown to such an extent that it has been able to create employment for four people.

Klaasm Trading Enterprise (PTY) LTD



The 23-year-old Olu Sifiso Klaas from Ashton in the Western Cape Province is the founder of Klaasm Trading Enterprise (PTY) LTD, a manufacturing and repairing company that currently employs 7 people on a full-time basis and, 3 temporarily.

The young aspiring entrepreneur learnt about the NYDA on the internet when he was searching for possible funding institutions that would assist his business. After reading about the agency, Olu approached the NYDA Cape Town branch for further information on how he could be supported.

The branch enrolled him on the Business Management Training, which he completed successfully and was eligible to apply for the Grant Funding. The NYDA assisted Klaasm Trading Enterprise (PTY) LTD with financial support to the value of R50 000 to buy material and working equipment.

The Western Cape-based young entrepreneur would like to decrease the statistics of youth unemployment in South Africa and contribute to boosting the country’s economy. He aims to expand his business into other provinces as well as operate outside of South Africa.

“To young people, let us chase our dreams. Do something today, that your future self will thank you for,” said Olu.

Yandisa Langa



The 34-year-old Yandisa Langa from Eastern Cape relocated to Fish Hoek in Western Cape, where he currently operates his business. Working as a security guard in one of the restaurants presented him with an idea to start his own agricultural business. His desire to produce and supply restaurants with organic vegetables grew, as he identified a market and decided to seek more information and available funding opportunities.

In his quest to receive assistance, Yandisa approached the NYDA branch in Cape Town to enquire about the products and services developed to assist young people. After undergoing all processes, he was approved the NYDA Grant Funding to the value of R68 000.00 to buy tools to build a walk-in greenhouse for the vegetable garden, as well as seeds and fertilizers.

The young aspiring entrepreneur currently employs five young people and, he intends to own a farm with a processing plant, and an agriculture accredited Skills Centre. Yandisa encourages young people to pursue their dreams and always be prepared to learn and equip themselves with current business knowledge. “Start with what you have, do not wait for large sums of money, investment and support to realise your dreams,” added Yandisa.

Thabelang Jewelers (Pty) Ltd



Mashike Mangoale, a 32-year-old young man who hails from Polokwane in Limpopo is the sole owner of the Thabelang Jewelers (Pty) Ltd. The business specialises in manufacturing and repairing of jewelry products. Driven by his dream of establishing his own business, Mashike went on to register his business in 2010. After learning about the NYDA, Mashike was referred to his nearest branch in Polokwane where he successfully applied for the Grant Funding to the value of R50 000.00.

The Grant assisted him to purchase the necessary equipment for his business such as the Jewel Astro-Sonic Machine as well as a variety of raw materials including, silver. The company now employs two young people and plans to employ more as it grows. Mashike’s wish is to grow his business to compete with the industry leaders and he is grateful for the assistance provided to him by the NYDA. 

“My business is going from strength to strength and has been able to secure partnership with big businesses such as Game Stores to do their jewellery repairs and manufacture jewellery for Jemco Art, Shann Moss Wholesalers and Tesh Diamonds” said Mashike.

Youth Empowerment R.M.S



Five young people from a previously disadvantaged community in KwaZulu-Natal decided to work together to form a cooperative called Youth Empowerment R.M.S.

 

The cooperative is running a fresh food garden at Lamontville in Durban and one of their specialised product is Spinach Muffins. Their future goals involve growing the business to be able to supply supermarket giants such as Pick n Pay and Spar. The business employs young people on a full-time basis.

 

Speaking on behalf of the cooperative, Siphelele Memela says that they struggled to secure funding to establish their business. After hearing about the products and services offered by the NYDA, they decided to approach the Durban Branch to enquire. 

 

The Durban Branch took them through the process of applying and approved the Grant Funding to the value of R31 000,00 to buy products such as (but not limited to) staff uniforms, food processing tools, seed, compost, weed controller and greenhouse materials. The cooperative was also awarded with the NYDA Voucher for business plan, business profile and branding.  

 

“It is very important for youth to take advantage of the services offered by government such as the NYDA programmes that are designed to address the struggles that prevents young peoples to realise their dreams.  We are very grateful for the assistance we got. I would like to thank the Durban Branch for their fantastic and great support,” said Siphelele Memela.

Definitive Brand Culture (Pty) Ltd



Definitive Brand Culture (Pty) Ltd is a multi-media company that was founded by Mr Khwezi from Embalenhle in the Mpumalanga Province.

Khwezi started his career in Marketing as a Client Account Specialist for Sign A Rama Secunda and an Office Manager at Jimmy’s Media. He climbed the corporate ladder through to managing one of the biggest media houses, and he is also a sought-after speaker on marketing and branding matters.

In 2015, Khwezi registered his company and his services include graphic and logo design, printing, embroidery, branding and web development. Upon realising the need for more equipment and having already received the Business Management Training from the NYDA, the young aspiring entrepreneur applied for Grant Funding at the Secunda branch. He was awarded R48 468,25 worth of production equipment and tools including a PC, laptop, cameo/silhouette plotter and digital printers as well as a cap heat press.

Definitive Brand Culture (Pty) Ltd currently employs three people who are each responsible for administrative work, design and general printing. Khwezi’s immediate future expansion plan is to open a branch in Gauteng.

In-House Media and Communications



Two young people from Bethlehem in the Free State Province, Motlatsi and Dimakatso Mofokeng, founded In-House Media and Communications. The Company specialises in Photography, Corporate Videos, Promotional Videos and Graphic design services.

Motlatsi acquired his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Motion Picture Medium in 2012 and, proceeded to work as an intern for a Media House, where he gained vast knowledge and skills in photography and videography. He identified a marketplace and established his business when his internship contract ended. He outsourced equipment from different suppliers to service his clients. This affected the business’ ability to generate profit and restricted it from being competitive.

The young aspiring entrepreneur decided to seek financial assistance and approached the NYDA. After undergoing all application processes, Motlatsi received the NYDA Grant Funding to the value of R49 992, 00 to purchase equipment for the company. The assistance from the NYDA has enabled the business to penetrate the market and, is currently servicing different Municipalities, Motor Dealerships, and Shopping Malls. The equipment has enabled competitive advantage, and the business' turnover has increased significantly.

In-House Media and Communications have also received recognition from different stakeholders for the unique and exceptional work it offers. The founders have expressed their utmost gratitude to the NYDA for believing in their business.

Luya Creations.



Nokulunga Tonela is a 28-year-old young lady from Orlando West in Soweto who received the NYDA Grant Funding through the Soweto Branch. She used the Grant Funding to buy stock and mannequins for her beading and jewellery business, Luya Creations.

Nokulunga is currently studying jewellery making and design so she can further enhance her skills and expertise. The NYDA’s intervention and assistance has resulted in business exposure and profitability. She currently has a stand at Florinda, an online store and her future goals involve having her own, where she will sell her products independently.

“Follow your dream, be patient and work hard. Follow your passion,” said Nokulunga.

Nomsa Nhlapo

The 24-year-old Nomsa Nhlapo from Tsakane in Gauteng has completed her BCom Honours in Econometrics.

She is currently placed at the ETDP SETA; under the Performance, Monitoring and Evaluation unit, where her responsibilities involve collecting raw data, analysing and interpreting it to achieve findings.

This opportunity was accessed through the NYDA Jobs Database and Matching Service. Nomsa submitted her CV at the NYDA after she was informed by a friend about the agency. She subsequently enrolled on the Jobs Preparedness Training, and was later granted an opportunity to work for the EDTP SETA.

Nomsa’s future aspiration is to further her studies by pursuing a Master’s Degree in Financial Economics. The reason she has set this goal is because of her underprivileged background wherein education is perceived as the only solution out of poverty.

Snesy Furniture and Clothing

​The NYDA has assisted Sinethemba Mona from De Doorns in Western Cape with a Grant Funding of R50 000 for her furniture and clothing business, Sneshy Furniture & Clothing.
 
Through the NYDA’s intervention, the young aspiring entrepreneur could purchase a container and merchandise including furniture and garments. The 27-year-old registered for the Business Management Training at the Cape Town branch after she had heard on TV that the agency offers various products and services for young people. Sneshy Furniture & Clothing currently employs two young people.
 
Her aspirations involve owning multiple outlets that would be stationed in various areas so that she could reach more clients and expand her business. She intends to employ more young people and aims to move from operating in a container to running her business in a more stable structure.

She would like to thank the Cape Town branch for their support and understanding throughout her application process. “You have to be strong no matter how big your challenges may seem, never be ashamed to ask for help when there are various institutions available to assist you,” said Sinethemba.

Lebohang Moshoke

Lebohang Moshoke is a 23-year-old young woman from Gatesville in Western Cape who owns a business that manufactures clothing items for clients that have an appreciation of quality-stylish designs.

Her travel and exposure to boutique outlets cultivated her love and passion for clothes and attire. She decided to establish her own fashion design business and contacted the NYDA Cape Town branch for start-up capital, after her church members had informed her about the agency.

The young aspiring entrepreneur participated on the Business Management Training and subsequently applied for the NYDA Grant Funding. The agency assisted Lebohang’s business, which currently employs two young people on a full-time basis, with R31 863.94 worth of equipment and merchandise.

She intends to employ more young people and equip them with designing and sewing skills. The Cape Town-based young entrepreneur has since been receiving opportunities to display her products at various fashion shows wherein she continuously gains insight about the industry.

Zondle Mduduzi Mnisi



Zondle Mduduzi Mnisi Agricultural and Mining Supply (Pty) Ltd is an operational maize and soya beans farming company, which was established and formally registered in February 2018.

It is 100% black youth-owned company, founded by Mr Mduduzi Mnisi, a 32-year-old young man based in Breyten Chief Albert Luthuli Municipality in Mpumalanga. Mr Mnisi is trained and experienced in maize and soya beans production.

He enrolled for Bookkeeping and Recordkeeping, Maize Crop Production and Farm Business Management at AgriSA. He was awarded the Small Farmer of the Year award, and his company is a custodian of the Mpumalanga Department of Agriculture, Rural Development and Land Administration through the Asibuyele Emasimini farming improvement programme.

The business is currently operating from a rented farm, situated at Bankfontein Farm in Mpumalanga. The company currently has old brush cutters, wheelbarrows, plastic rakes, lawn mowers, forks and spades. Mr Mnisi approached the NYDA Secunda Branch for assistance to purchase seeds and accessories.

He was awarded funding of R49 356,00 that he used to purchase soya beans seeds, manure, diesel and other farming accessories. He can now plough 20 hectares with the acquired seeds. He currently employs four people on the farm.

With the expansion, he hopes to purchase more farming equipment to be able to utilise the 60 hectares space he is renting.

Phanda Studios



The 23-year-old Ndivho Maginya from Johannesburg is the founder of Phanda Studios, a company that provides Video Production, Graphic Design and Photography services to prospective clients. He won the Africa Idea trophy in 2017 and was part of the Future Leaders League held in 2017, in London.

His journey with the NYDA started in 2018 at the Nasrec Opportunity Expo where the agency was one of the stakeholders.

Young entrepreneurs were granted a platform to pitch their business ideas for funding opportunities. Later, Ndivho was provided with an opportunity to apply for the NYDA Grant Funding. After successfully completing all application processes, he was assisted with the Grant Funding of R48 391, 00 through the Johannesburg branch.

The NYDA also provided additional Mentorship support to the young entrepreneur to ensure the success of his business. Phanda Studios currently employ five young people on a full-time basis, and Nidvho intends to establish branches in all nine provinces to create more employment opportunities for youth.

“I am so grateful to the NYDA, the business is doing well now,” said the determined young entrepreneur.

Precious Malatji



Precious Malatji is a 27-year-old ambitious young woman from Dennilton in the Limpopo Province, who holds a National Diploma in Finance and Accounting. She is also a member of the South African Institute of Business Accounts, certified candidate to practice as an Accountant, and founder of Nano Holdings (Pty) Ltd – a company that specialises in Branding and Printing.

The young aspiring entrepreneur decided to start her own company after struggling to find one that offers reliable services in her area. This experience presented her with an opportunity to bridge the gap by covering aspects that she felt were neglected by the already existing businesses at the time. Initially, her company’s supply could not meet clients’ demand as it lacked capacity and Precious would therefore refer them to other existing service providers.

Her situation changed the moment she heard about the launch of the NYDA Groblersdal District Service Centre in October 2018, which she attended with an interest to learn more about agency’s products and services designed for youth development. Informed and motivated, Precious decided to visit the centre a few days later.

The NYDA assisted the Dennilton-based young entrepreneur with a Grant Funding of R49, 795.00 after she had successfully completed all application processes. Nano Holdings (Pty) Ltd currently employs three young people.

Letlotlo Modise



Letlotlo Modise is a 26-year-old vibrant young man from Kuruman in Northern Cape and he is the owner of Tre’ Culture Aquaponics, a form of agriculture in which vegetables, fruits and herbs are grown in a soil-less system.

He combines aquaculture (raising fish) and hydroponics (the soil-less growing of plants) to grow fish and plants together in one integrated system. The NYDA assisted Letlotlo with a Grant Funding valued at R50, 000 to purchase equipment comprising of, but not limited to Fish Tanks, Water Tank and a Walk-in Greenhouse, for his aquaponics system. 

With this form of agriculture, Letlotlo is able to sustainably maximise production and improve efficiency, while reducing the usage of water. He manages his business with the assistance of his father and currently operates at the back of his parents’ home. His future goal is to expand and supply retailers in his Province and beyond.

Artville MEDIA Production - Pty Ltd



The 28-year-old Edwin Makhubela from Ivory Park in Midrand, Gauteng, is the co-owner of Artville MEDIA Production - Pty Ltd, a Video and Audio Production Company. He completed a Higher Certificate in Film and Screen Media.

The company does sound recording that includes creating beats for music artists, video editing, music video and movie filming, colour grading, and events capturing. The NYDA assisted the young aspiring entrepreneur with the Grant Funding of R9 999, 25 through the Johannesburg branch, to purchase business equipment.

The business currently employs three young people on a full-time basis and two temporary staff members.

Mfundo Sithole



Mfundo Sithole is the founder of Wande Langa (Pty) Ltd, an agricultural business that operates within the Nkomazi Local Municipality in Mpumalanga. 

The company was formally registered in 2017 and the owner was able to secure 13.5 hectares of land that is used for vegetable production. The need for extensive assistance and intervention from established organisations arose as his vision broadened. The young aspiring entrepreneur visited the agency’s Mbombela branch, where he was assisted with a Grant Funding of R50 000 to purchase equipment, seedlings and working gear.

Wande Langa (Pty) Ltd has subsequently managed to sustain and supply retail giants such as SPAR supermarket, Pick n Pay, Boxer and Choppies Enterprises Limited around Malelane and Naas area, with cabbage, tomatoes, onions, beetroot and spinach on a weekly basis. The company currently employs three young people and intends to demonstrate to the youth that success exists for them within this space.




Umbila Oshayo Primary Cooperative



Umbila Oshayo Primary Cooperative is a health and beauty business that is owned by five young people, four females and one male from Ladysmith in KwaZulu-Natal.

The cooperative sells a variety of health and beauty products, and is said to be the only distributor in Ladysmith and surrounding areas. The young people saw the need for such a business with the aim to provide affordable health and beauty products that improve the well-being of the community.

In their quest to start the business, Umbila Oshayo Primary Cooperative identified the NYDA. One factor that stood out about the organisation was its willingness to support young aspiring entrepreneurs. The agency assisted the young people with Cooperative Governance Training and a Grant Funding of R47 300.00 through the Durban branch, to purchase stock and installing of shelving units.

Like any aspiring entrepreneur and growing business, goals and a vision are put in place for the cooperative; their objective is to become a reputable health and beauty products distributor in KwaZulu-Natal and beyond.

Michelle Mathuloe



The 30-year-old Michelle Mathuloe from Kgale Section in Rustenburg, North West, is the founder and owner of Pani Vibrant Creations. The business specialises in furniture manufacturing by means of pallets and used car tyres to create stylish designs.

The young aspiring entrepreneur was assisted with the NYDA Grant Funding of R47, 000 through the Rustenburg branch, to purchase equipment. She has stated that the quality of her products and the time it takes to produce have improved rapidly due to the agency’s intervention.

The business has proven to be flexible and Michelle currently has two part-time employees that assist her with the business.

Browse Media Works



Althwane Kola from Meriting in the North West Province founded Browse Media Works, an establishment that offers all-in-one business solutions such as Internet Access, Graphic Design services, as well as document printing, copying and faxing.

The 23-year-old had intended to start his own business immediately after completing his matric; however, he could not fulfill his dream due to financial constraints. The young aspiring entrepreneur did not allow the lack of resources to stop him from realising his full potential. He then decided to approach the NYDA for funding.

He successfully went through all the application processes, which confirmed his eligibility to apply for the NYDA Grant Funding. Browse Media Works received R36 000 worth of business equipment through the agency’s Rustenburg branch.

Athwane has stated that one of his secret ingredients that have led to the success of his business is staying informed and respecting the business as well as his clients.

“I am very thankful to NYDA with the support they have provided me, through training and funding to purchase equipment in order to ensure that my business continues to do well,” said the young aspiring entrepreneur.

TEMANGCANE (PTY) LTD UYI Medical Spa



Makhosazana Reginah Maseko is the owner of TEMANGCANE (PTY) LTD UYI Medical Spa and a qualified beautician from Boschfontein in the Nkomazi Municipality, Mpumalanga.

The young and vibrant aspiring entrepreneur applied and received the NYDA Grant Funding of R42 231.69 through the Mbombela Branch; to purchase inventories for her business. The NYDA further assisted her with a Financial Management Voucher to enable her to manage her finances. Makhosazana’s establishment currently employs one young person and intends to employ more.

TEMANGCANE (PTY) LTD UYI Medical Spa is presently operating at one of the reputable lodges in Mzinti, Mpumalanga, where she offers spa and beauty services such as massages, manicure, pedicure and eyebrow shaping to her clients.
